What is NotebookLM?

NotebookLM is a smart, virtual workspace designed to help you understand and work with your documents. Think of it as having a research assistant that has read and memorized everything you give it.

Key Differences from Regular Chatbots

• Does not train on your information: Your documents stay private and are not used to improve the model
• Source-grounded: Answers come directly from documents you provide, with citations
• Fine-tuned to hallucinate less: Because it’s working from your sources, it’s more accurate
• Less creative: The tradeoff for accuracy is that it won’t invent information

Important Note

Because NotebookLM doesn’t train on your information, you need to save notes and outputs you like. They won’t persist automatically.

NotebookLM can absorb an incredible amount of information:

• NotebookLM: 25 million words per notebook
• Gemini: 500,000 words
• Claude: 100,000 words
• ChatGPT: 64,000 words
