GenAI Coding

What is GenAI Coding (aka “Vibe Coding”)?

GenAI Coding means developing software by describing what you want in plain language. You describe the functionality you want, and the AI writes the code.

The Only Limit is Your Imagination

Here are some ideas for library applications you could create:

  • Patron Email Tone-Tuner: Paste a draft response, choose polite/encouraging/firm, and get a rewritten email with correct policy snippets
  • Email Grammar Guardian: Clean up grammar and spelling while preserving your voice, with a “what changed & why” list
  • Book Recommendation Tool: Let patrons select genres and age ranges to get personalized suggestions
  • Program Planner: Generate complete program outlines from a simple theme

Sample Prompt for Creating an App

“I need a simple web tool for our library that helps patrons find book recommendations. It should have: A form where patrons can select genres they enjoy (fiction, non-fiction, mystery, sci-fi, romance), an option to include their age range (kids, teens, adults), a button to submit their preferences, and a section that displays 3 random book recommendations based on their selections. Each recommendation should include the book title, author, and a brief description. The page should use our library colors (blue #2A4D69 and gold #E9B44C). Make it mobile-friendly too! I don’t know coding but need something our IT person can implement quickly.”
